This post features student writing.
Waking up on the tranquil island Saturday morning, many of us had the opportunity to sleep in. Some of us woke up early for an adventurous hike. We all gathered for a lecture from our guest author, B.J. He taught us new ways to develop different aspects of our writing. After that, we had free time for lunch.
B.J. brought us on a stroll through the island. We had an enjoyable silent reflection time in which we appreciated Inishbofin and observed our surroundings. We came to a beach in which we wrote a letter to our future selves as a fun writing exercise. Together, we spent time at the beach, building sandcastles, skipping rocks, and practicing our summer salts.
On our way back, we encountered some cows and watched them graze. We walked back to the hostel and some of us volunteered to make dinner. We made spaghetti bolognese, garlic bread, and salad, and included vegetarian options. Dinner was delicious and proved how well we can all collaborate together!
After everyone helped clean up, our leaders read aloud their own writing, which we all found inspirational and moving. We then departed for a small hike to watch the sunset and took photos, even seeing a woman walk her cows halfway through! Coming back to the hostel, we had tea and hot chocolate. A lovely day was concluded and we all went to bed with full stomachs, happy memories, and excitement for what’s to come.
